Bookmark www.walkeryri.org.uk, where I will keep people updated as to the progress of this site. It is this site's sister site, and navigation and so on has been kept similar where practical. As it says below, don't expect an awful lost on here till next year, there are still some photographs and fine tuning to be done, and i intend to walk it's entire length to ensure there have been no changes (new obstacles, footbridges washed away etc) since i was last there.

Update, 5th September 2006

Ok, not quite ready as stated. Oh well!

I have got a Gallery page on Walk Eryri showing rough maps for the route now. GPS files in GPX, Tracklogs and Memory Map format will also follow soon. If anyone's desperate for them, email me.

The final product might take a bit longer than anticipated, including the printable route maps / pamphlets.

Welcome to Eryri Way website.

The site is intended to be used as a guide to a trail that takes you from Porthmadog to Caernarfon, folowing the most spectacular of scenery. There is no long distance route in Eryri, so I decided to design my own. Finally, after twelve years of thinking, here's the result. Originally, the route was called the Caernarfonshire Way, and followed the Llyn coast initially, before crossing the hills to Conwy and then Caernarfon.

Now that Gwynedd Council have developed the Llyn Coastal Path (LlCP), i feel no need to reinvent the wheel. What i propose is a continuation of the LlCP, taking the hiker through the most spectacular of Snowdonia's scenery. It intentionally avoids 'high' ground as it is meant to be of a similar technical difficulty as the LlCP. If you want mountains, i suggest you follow the Eryri Way to Beddgelert, the Cambrian Way to Conwy, and then rejoin the Eryri Way to Caernarfon.

What you will find on the site is information for anyone who is ready to undertake the challenge, including accommodation advice, travel, gps files and printable maps to help navigation (You will still need OS maps, we'll tell you which ones you need). The site should be in a fully useable state by Easter 2006, as I need to double check and photograph a couple of sections before confirming the route online.

The whole idea is very much in the vein of the Cambrian way book by Richard Sale, whereby there are checkpoints that should be passed during the day, giving much more freedom of route. In other words, you could well choose to take a high level route and still hit all the checkpoints. Ultimately, it's just an idea, a suggestion of a walk you can do and not something written in stone.
